Are You Numb Yet?

1.5 Credit Hours

It is an unfair question because patients really do not know if they are adequately anesthetized to start the procedure. This presentation will focus on the tools necessary to confidently deliver anesthetic to achieve profound analgesia. An overview of anesthetic performance will also be included, discussing the real-time course of analgesia and buffering anesthetic, which will dramatically improve the onset of analgesia. The goal of the presentation is for the practitioner to have the confidence to never again have to ask the age-old question: “are you numb yet?”

Learning Objectives:

  1. Describe how to reduce anesthetic failures, decrease stress associated with delivering anesthetic for both the patient and the dental provider.
  2. Understand the importance and best methods of confirming analgesia before starting any dental procedure.
  3. Understand the real-time course of local anesthesia.
  4. Learn the science of buffering local anesthetic.
