The Legal Implications of Being a Dental Practitioner

Legal implications are faced everyday by Dental Practitioners. These range from Malpractice, OSHA, and HIPPA to disputes with The State Board, The IRS, and employees.
This course is designed to prepare and educate the participants to face such challenges, how to avoid such events, as well as how to respond to such proceedings. Additionally, we will also discuss strategies to correct and prevail when facing legal action.
As Benjamin Franklin once said, “An ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure.”
Participants are encouraged bring questions and submit them in advance.
Course Objectives:
- At the conclusion of this course the participant will recognize many of the legal challenges Dental Practitioners face daily and how to prepare for them.
- At the conclusion of this course the participant will recognize how to respond to these legal challenges.
- At the conclusion of this course participants will also know how not to respond to such challenges.

Dr. George Just, DDS, JD
Dr. George Just has more than 50 years of experience as a licensed dentist, and 35 years as a licensed attorney. He graduated Queens College (CUNY) in 1969 having received a full scholarship, and then completed his dental training at Case Western Reserve University in 1973. Upon graduation he was awarded the CV Mosby Award for Academic Excellence as well as USAF scholarship. He then served two years as a Captain at Eglin Air Force Base at the end of the Vietnam Conflict. During those two years he acquired vast experience in general dentistry as well as Oral Surgery, Periodontics and Endodontics. Upon his discharge Dr. Just received his Endodontic training at NYU School of Dentistry and Peninsula Hospital Center. His research paper on “The Presence of Immunoglobulins in Bovine Pulps” was published in the Journal of Endodontics circa 1979. In 1988 Dr. Just graduated from Duquesne School of Law having been selected for Law Review.
In addition to private practice Dr. Just has been a Diplomate of the Board of Forensic Examiners, past president of the Pittsburgh Endodontic Study Club, and current President of the East Suburban Dental Society. He has also held academic positions at the University of Pittsburgh School of Dentistry in the Endodontic Department. He currently serves as a preceptor at the Erie Campus of LECOM School of Dentistry, and continues to work partr time at his former practice.
Since 1996 Dr. Just has lectured for Tulsa Dental, now called Dentsply Sirona, throughout the United States and Canada, in both the areas of Endodontics and Dental Malpractice. He has been involved in more than 200 cases including being an expert for several State Boards.
